The story of Touring Superleggera
The early years In early 1926, two lawyers from Milan – Felice Bianchi Anderloni and Gaetano Ponzoni – decided to leave behind the world…
Designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, the Aston Martin DB5 was an evolution of the final series of DB4.
The Aston Martin DB5 designed and bodied by Milan coachbuilder Touring Superlerggera, in 1,033 examples, production runs from chassis number DB5C/1251 to DB5C/2275. As said the bodywork (like all cars in the “DB” series up to DB6) was designed by Touring and built in England at Tickford under license; in fact, on every Aston Martin there is the inscription “Superleggera” which identifies the patented method of body construction. particular ersions of the DB5 are the DB5 Vantage, a model further enhanced and equipped with three Weber carburetors that allowed a power output of 314 hp (234 Kw), manufactured in 1964 in 65 examples out of the total 898 of the coupe version; the second variant is represented by the convertible version known as the DB5 Volante produced in only 123 examples; the third version is the Shooting Brake variant christened “Estate,” made in only 12 examples by the independent coachbuilder Harold Radford using the rear of Triumph cars. The latter version was born at the direct behest of David Brown, who was a great hunting enthusiast and owner of purebred dogs and needed a sporty but capacious car to enjoy his favorite pastimes. He solved the problem by having a regular DB5 modified into a Shooting Brake by the British manufacturer’s body shop. This car was so successful that the independent coachbuilder Radford recreated this version from regular DB5s.
