Alfa Romeo BAT 11

The Alfa Romeo BAT 11 is a concept car based on the mechanics of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, built by the Bertone Style Center and exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008.

Vehicle Overview

The Alfa Romeo BAT 11 is a striking concept car that pays homage to Bertone‘s illustrious design heritage. Commissioned by American collector Gary Kaberle, the BAT 11 draws inspiration from the classic B.A.T. series that captivated automotive enthusiasts in the mid-20th century. Kaberle’s fascination with the B.A.T. 9 began during his teenage years when he encountered the car in a deteriorated state, parked in front of a Dodge dealership in Michigan. Entranced by its unique design, Kaberle saved up and eventually purchased the car. However, he later sold it to cover medical expenses for his wife, as recounted in a 1994 article in Classic & Sports Car Magazine. The B.A.T. 9, along with its siblings, was restored and reunited in 1989, before being showcased at the prestigious Concours d’Élégance at Pebble Beach in 2005 by their then-owner, Cars International Kensington Ltd., a British dealer specializing in high-end road and racing cars. The collection was appraised at $8 million and subsequently sold to a private collector. In 2008, driven by his enduring passion for the B.A.T. series, Dr. Kaberle approached Bertone with the concept of creating a modern interpretation of the iconic design. The result was the BAT 11, constructed on the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. This contemporary iteration retained the aerodynamic elegance and dramatic styling cues that defined its predecessors. Unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the BAT 11 was a testament to Bertone’s design prowess and Alfa Romeo’s commitment to innovative engineering. The concept car featured the signature flowing lines, pronounced fins, and futuristic aesthetics that had made the original B.A.T. models so iconic. By bridging the gap between past and present, the BAT 11 not only celebrated Bertone’s legacy but also showcased the enduring appeal of visionary automotive design.
