Vehicle Overview

The Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Berlinetta #412.004 began its illustrious life as a race car, initially fitted with a Botticella body. It made its mark at the 1936 Mille Miglia, where Marchese Antonio Sforza Brivio took the wheel, commanding an impressive 14-minute lead during the race. However, as fate would have it, the car’s lights failed, creating an intense challenge for Brivio and his co-driver, Carlo Ongaro. Despite the setback, they persevered, holding off their closest rivals, Antonio “Nino” Farina and Pintacuda, who were chasing them relentlessly. In a dramatic conclusion to the race, Brivio and Ongaro reached the finish line in Brescia with just a 32-second lead over Farina and Stefano Meazza. They covered the 1,597 km course in 13 hours, 7 minutes, and 51 seconds, at an average speed of 121.590 km/h, setting a new speed record for the Mille Miglia and securing their victory. After its racing success, chassis #412.004 underwent a series of transformations that added to its historical significance. The car was rebodied as a Spider by the famed coachbuilder Pininfarina. This new body featured innovative pop-up headlights, designed by Mario Revelli, specifically for Count Salvi del Pero. The sleek design and engineering prowess of the car earned it the category prize at the 1939 Turin Elegance Concours. Later, the car was rebodied once again, this time in Switzerland, where it was transformed into a Berlinetta Sport. Today, this extraordinary Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Berlinetta #412.004 resides in the Schlumpf Collection in France, preserving its legacy as a symbol of racing glory and the evolution of automotive design.
