The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Viotti Coupé designed by Revelli di Beaumont.
The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Viotti Coupé stands as an exquisite masterpiece of automotive design, crafted with aerodynamic elegance by Mario Revelli di Beaumont. A testament to the bespoke luxury of the 1930s, it was not uncommon for coachbuilders to create unique bodies for these exceptional vehicles. Registered on June 10, 1933, this particular 8C 2300 embarked on a remarkable journey, originally sold to a dealer acting on behalf of Arthur Fox for Brian Lewis to pilot at the 1933 24 Hours of Le Mans, securing a commendable third-place finish. Remarkably, following the race, it was returned to Italy, with its Touring body replaced by the fabulous Viotti coachwork, a transformation carried out by Carozzeria Viotti S.A. of Turin in 1935. The Viotti Coupé, designed with meticulous attention to aerodynamic principles, boasts distinctive features, including a convex windscreen, integrated headlights, and a gracefully downward-sloping rear end. Its unique design is a striking testament to the convergence of art and science in automotive aesthetics. With a storied past, the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Viotti Coupé garnered attention in Autocar in December 1966, shedding light on its post-Le Mans adventures. Having journeyed to Italian Somaliland in the early 1950s, it found itself in the hands of a ‘Fascist official’ and participated in local competitions. When the British displaced the Italians, the car’s owner became a ‘guest’ of King George, and the vehicle was stored until his release. Over the years, it changed hands, underwent various transformations, including a stint as a vivid red touring-style car. Fortunately, the car found its way into the Keller Collection in 1991, where it underwent a meticulous restoration to its original Viotti-bodied glory. Today, as the only 8C 2300 with Viotti Coachwork, it stands as one of the most beautiful Alfa Romeos ever made, a rolling testament to the timeless allure of automotive design. Whether in motion or at rest, this Aerodynamic Coupe embodies a sense of perpetual elegance, capturing the essence of a bygone era.
