The genesis of the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Corto Spider Touring began in 1932 with significant developments introduced into the car. Just one year after production commenced, a “second series” emerged. Power was increased to 165 hp at 5400 rpm across all versions by raising the compression ratio to 6.5:1. Additionally, the oil tank capacity was reduced, and improvements were made to the brakes and suspension. The spring of 1932 proved to be fruitful for Alfa Romeo, with significant victories. In April, Mario Umberto “Baconin” Borzacchini, partnered with Amedeo Bignami, piloted an 8C 2300 Corto Spider Touring to victory in the first Mille Miglia, marking the beginning of eight total victories by the 8-cylinder Alfa Romeo in the race’s history. In May, Tazio Nuvolari secured his second Targa Florio win, and in June, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Raymond Sommer and Luigi Chinetti claimed the top step of the podium, followed by Franco Cortese and Giovanni Battista Guidotti with the “Lungo Spider Le Mans.” The double triumph at Le Mans further elevated the reputation of these cars, extending their fame even beyond the Alps.
