Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Supergioiello

Chassis

#64251

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Supergioiello one-off by Ghia.

Vehicle Overview

The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Supergioiello with a Gilco chassis and Ghia bodywork is a remarkable example of post-war automotive craftsmanship and exclusivity. This one-off model stands out not only for its rarity but also for its exceptional design and engineering. Built in 1950, this Supergioiello is one of only four such coupes crafted by Carrozzeria Ghia. While the other three were constructed on the standard Alfa Romeo chassis, this particular Supergioiello was built on a more advanced and distinctly post-war tubular chassis supplied by Gilco Milano. The decision to use the Gilco chassis, designated as chassis 64251, was driven by an order from SIRCA, Milan’s premier car distributor at the time. SIRCA’s request was to have Gilco build a chassis that would accommodate the 6C running chassis, complete with all the correct Alfa Romeo 6C 2500SS mechanical components. The choice of the Gilco chassis for this Supergioiello allowed for a more modern and sophisticated foundation compared to the standard Alfa Romeo chassis, enhancing the vehicle’s performance and driving dynamics. This tubular chassis is a testament to the advanced engineering of the era, providing a robust yet lightweight platform that complemented the car’s high-performance capabilities. The bodywork by Ghia further accentuates the Supergioiello’s uniqueness. Known for their bespoke and elegant designs, Ghia created a coupe that embodied both luxury and style. The Supergioiello’s body features sleek, aerodynamic lines and an overall design that is both timeless and distinctive. Today, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Supergioiello with the Gilco chassis is celebrated for its exclusivity and fine condition. Its restoration has preserved the vehicle’s historical significance and aesthetic appeal, making it a prized example of post-war automotive design. This one-off coupe not only represents a significant chapter in Alfa Romeo’s history but also serves as a tribute to the innovative spirit of Ghia and the engineering excellence of Gilco Milano.
