The story of Touring Superleggera
The early years In early 1926, two lawyers from Milan – Felice Bianchi Anderloni and Gaetano Ponzoni – decided to leave behind the world…
The Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider by Touring.
The Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Touring Like the house redesigned 2600 sedan also derives from the 2000 sedan, the new Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider (106.01 series) designed and built by Touring, derived from the previous 2000 Spider. As for the direct ancestor, the Milanese coachbuilder decides not to use the Superleggera method, in which the external body panels are made of aluminum, but a modern monocoque structure entirely in steel. In fact, at that time Touring was transforming itself from an atelier to a real industrial manufacturer and the 2600 Spider was the first body built in the new Nova Milanese plant. The Alfa 2600 Spider Touring undergoes a slight restyling and adopts all the technical improvements made to the sedan, including the engine, but changes less than the sedan. The open two-seater is based on the four-door chassis, from which it inherits steering, brakes and suspension, but with a shortened wheelbase from 2720 mm to 2500 mm and an engine boosted to 145 HP thanks to the increase in the compression ratio up to 9: 1 and the adoption of three Solex 40 PHH double-barrel carburettors. The gearbox is still 5-speed but has the lever on the tunnel. Thanks to these changes and to the different bodywork, the spider reaches 200 km/h. The body of the Alfa 2600 Spider Touring differs from that of the previous 2000 as well as for the renewed mechanics, also for numerous external details that distinguish it at first sight. It is in fact equipped with a single air intake on the bonnet (instead of the two smaller ones of the 2000) but retains the small winged logos of the Touring body, without the Superleggera writing in italics because the body is in steel and made not use of its innovative construction system, in the front it differs in the single front bumper (instead of the split one of the 2000), new are also the smaller and rounded triangular Alfa Romeo shield and the grilles of the front air intakes, which continue to incorporate the position lights and arrows. Ghia made also a design proposal, but Alfa Romeo decided to continue with Touring’s partnership
