The Alfa Romeo 2600 De Luxe made its grand entrance onto the automotive stage in 1965, courtesy of OSI, unveiled at the Turin Auto Salon. Representing an alternative sedan version to the standard offering from the manufacturer, the Alfa Romeo 2600 De Luxe (Series 106.16) boasted a distinctly modern design, setting it apart from its counterparts. Constructed by the Turin-based OSI (Officine Stampaggi Industriali), a company under the Ghia group, this exquisite creation took shape over the following two years, with a limited production run of 54 units, one of which found its way into the possession of the Shah of Persia. Underneath its sleek exterior, the 2600 De Luxe inherited the robust 130 horsepower engine from the standard sedan model. However, as an optional feature, and not immediately available, OSI offered the more potent 145 horsepower engine typically found in the Sprint/Spider variants. Leveraging the expertise of renowned designer Giovanni Michelotti, OSI embarked on a mission to refine the sedan’s lines, infusing it with a contemporary aesthetic reminiscent of the smaller Giulia and the 2600 Sprint. The result was a transformation that transcended mere practicality, evolving the sedan into a captivating four-door coupé. Yet, despite its coupé-inspired design, OSI remained committed to preserving passenger comfort, exemplified by the inclusion of two large additional rear windows, enhancing visibility and interior ambiance. With its refined lines and forward-thinking design elements, the Alfa Romeo 2600 De Luxe emerged as a symbol of automotive sophistication, bridging the gap between luxury and practicality. Its limited production numbers only added to its allure, ensuring its status as a coveted collector’s piece for enthusiasts and aficionados alike.
