The Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Cabriolet Touring chassis AR1900C-10562.
The Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Cabriolet Touring, chassis AR1900C 10562, is a one-of-a-kind creation by the renowned Milanese coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring. When Alfa Romeo introduced the 1900 C Super Sprint Series II, Carrozzeria Touring envisioned a cabriolet version and developed a concept to present to the manufacturer. However, Alfa Romeo was already in the advanced stages of designing the 2000 Spider and had decided to award Carrozzeria Touring the contract for that model instead. As a result, Alfa Romeo opted not to commission the 1900C Super Sprint Cabriolet. Undeterred, Carrozzeria Touring took the bold step of producing a single example of their cabriolet design as a statement of their craftsmanship and vision. This solitary car, chassis number 10562, stands as a testament to the elegance and sophistication of Touring’s design language. Completed early in 1957, the car made its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show that March. Its journey to the exhibition, however, was nothing short of dramatic; still being assembled at the Carrozzeria Touring workshop as the show opened. It missed the first day of the event and was hurriedly completed and transported to Geneva overnight to take its place on the display stand. Photographs taken upon the car’s completion showcase the meticulous detailing and timeless design that Touring was famous for. At the Geneva Motor Show, the 1900C SS Cabriolet Touring demonstrated how striking the model could have been had it gone into production. Though it remained a one-off, this cabriolet captured the imagination of enthusiasts and solidified Carrozzeria Touring’s reputation as a master of design. Today, the 1900C SS Cabriolet Touring is a remarkable piece of Alfa Romeo history. As the only example ever built, it represents a unique intersection of innovation and artistry, illustrating what could have been for the 1900 C Super Sprint Cabriolet.
