The question of the delay in introducing the 166 has been a topic of discussion. Some witnesses from Turin and Milan suggest that the launch of the new flagship was postponed to avoid cannibalizing the market for the less convincing Lancia K. This reasoning, while debatable, highlights the marketing strategy that Alfa Romeo had to adopt to prevent internal conflicts and maximize sales. Ultimately, the 166 arrived in 1998, marking a new chapter for Alfa Romeo while maintaining a strong connection to the roots represented by the 164.
