Cox began his career with sponsorship from Ford Motor Company while studying at the Royal College of Art (RCA). Instead of joining Ford post-graduation, he opted to work with Lotus, collaborating with Peter Stevens to establish a new design studio. At Lotus, he contributed to the design of iconic models such as the Lotus Esprit, Lotus Elan, and the Isuzu 4200R concept, which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1988.

Cox later moved to Isuzu, where he set up a UK-based design studio. He gained significant attention in 1993 with the creation of the Isuzu Vehicross, a concept that materialized into production in 1997, blending futuristic design with off-road capability. He followed this with the innovative Isuzu VX2 and Isuzu Deseo concepts, further cementing his reputation as a designer unafraid to push boundaries.

In subsequent years, Cox joined General Motors (GM), where he established another advanced design studio in the UK and served as Design Director. During his time with GM, he created the Cadillac Converj, an electric luxury concept car that earned the Design Excellence prize in the concept car category at the 2009 EyesOn Design Awards.

Cox’s career also includes contributions to McLaren and Infiniti, where he led the creation of a new advanced design studio in London. His diverse portfolio spans collaborations with automotive giants such as Peugeot, Porsche, and Ford, further solidifying his legacy in the industry.

In addition to his design achievements, Cox played a key role in the development of race cars like the Ligier JSP4, unveiled at Le Mans in 2017, and the Revolution race car in 2018. He has also made significant contributions to transport design education, serving as Assistant Professor at Coventry University, where he shares his expertise with the next generation of designers.

Cox’s career is a testament to his ability to blend artistry with engineering, shaping the future of automotive design across multiple brands and sectors.
