Since 1984, Pietro Camardella has had a remarkable career in automotive design, making significant contributions to renowned brands like Ferrari, Lancia, Fiat, and Iveco. He began his journey at Pininfarina, where he was instrumental in the design of iconic Ferrari models, including the F40, 512 TR, F50, and the 456 GT. He also designed the Ferrari Mythos concept car, which won prestigious awards such as the Golden Marker Trophy at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show and the “Car Award” in 1990. His work during these years extended beyond cars, encompassing product design, furniture, and even boat designs like the Bénétéau First and Flyer series.
In 1993, Camardella became the Head of Exterior Design and Interim Interior Designer at the Lancia Style Centre, where he developed the Lancia Dialogos concept car and contributed to the production models of the Italian brand. This role marked the beginning of his deeper involvement with advanced design, and by 1998, he joined the Fiat Research Centre (CRF) as Transportation Chief Designer. In this position, he also returned to industrial design for the Fiat Group, leading to the creation of the Lancia Nea concept and other innovative projects.
Camardella’s impact on design continued in 2005 when he introduced the SPORTIVA LATINA concept car at the Barcelona Motor Show, which won the “Concept of the Year” award from the Spanish Society of Automobile Technicians (STA). He was named head of Advanced Design at Fiat’s Research Centre in 2006 and later coordinated the creation of the PHYLLA project in 2008. The PHYLLA was a photovoltaic urban vehicle for the Piedmont region, praised for its integration of aesthetic solar cells and its asymmetric design. The vehicle was exhibited at the Triennale di Milano and other events as an example of ecological design.
In 2010, Camardella applied his design expertise to the commercial vehicle sector with the concept truck, GLIDER, for IVECO. His design combined aerodynamic efficiency with attractive aesthetics, including innovative LED lighting and sleek, flowing lines that evoked the elegance of grand touring cars.
