Pierangelo Andreani

Introduce

Pierangelo Andreani, born in Sondrio in 1947, is a distinguished Italian designer whose passion for both art and material has shaped his long and diverse career in automotive, industrial, and nautical design. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in the world of design—his grandfather, Alberto, ran a cement products company, where young Pierangelo was exposed to materials like clay and plaster—Andreani’s journey into design began early. His exposure to the tactile relationship between art and material became a defining feature of his professional career.

In 1970, Andreani’s passion for automotive design led him to Turin, where he joined Fiat’s design team, playing a key role in designing the Fiat Ritmo. His journey continued in 1972 when he moved to the renowned Pininfarina design house. During his time at Pininfarina, Andreani made a significant contribution to automotive design with the creation of the Ferrari Mondial 8 in 1976, a model that showcased his sophisticated design style. That same year, he was also sought out by De Tomaso to contribute to designs for several prestigious brands, including Moto Guzzi, Benelli, and the Maserati Biturbo, in both two-door and four-door versions, as well as the Maserati 228.

In addition to his automotive work, Andreani ventured into the world of nautical design, where his contributions spanned over three decades. His collaboration with the Cranchi shipyard, which began in 1975, lasted until 2005. Following this, he expanded his expertise to other high-profile shipyards, including Beneteau, where his work continues to this day. He has also collaborated with Fountaine Pajot on motor catamarans since 2014, and his partnerships in the nautical world extend to companies like Colombo, Selva Marine, and Besenzoni, cementing his status as a key player in the field of marine design.

As a consultant, Andreani established Andreani Design in 1981, working with brands such as Cagiva, Yamaha, Piaggio, and Gilera. In 1985, he co-founded Tria Design with Jorge Arcuri and Canzio Lavelli. This company, operational until 1999, produced a variety of models and prototypes for automotive companies like Fiat, Nissan, and Renault, as well as for motorcycle brands such as Moto Guzzi and Yamaha. Additionally, since 1987, his ongoing partnership with Nova Design has seen him work on scooter designs for SYM, alongside numerous industrial products. His vast and varied portfolio showcases his versatility and lasting influence in the world of design across multiple industries.
