Luigi Rapi

Fabio Luigi Rapi (born 1902) was an influential Italian automobile designer, known for his work with prominent automotive brands such as Zagato, Isotta Fraschini, Fiat, and Autobianchi. His career spanned several decades, during which he made significant contributions to the design of both production vehicles and concept cars.

Rapi’s early work included designing for the renowned Italian coachbuilder Zagato, where he helped shape the company’s distinctive and innovative approach to automobile design. He then transitioned to Fiat, one of Italy’s largest automobile manufacturers, where he became the design director at the Dipartimento Carrozzerie Derivate e Speciali. In this role, Rapi was responsible for overseeing the design of special body styles and derivatives of Fiat’s standard production models, creating cars that were both functional and aesthetically unique.

Rapi’s time at Fiat was marked by several important designs, some of which included limited-edition models or vehicles intended for niche markets. His expertise in creating functional and beautiful bodywork made him a key player in Fiat’s design department during the mid-20th century.

In addition to his work with Fiat, Rapi also contributed to Autobianchi, a subsidiary of Fiat that produced small cars. His design influence helped shape some of the models produced by Autobianchi, combining both practicality and style.
