Enrico Fumia

Introduce

Enrico Fumia (born May 16, 1948, in Turin, Italy) is a highly respected Italian automobile designer, known for his impactful contributions to the automotive industry. His career began early when, at the age of 18, he won the prestigious “Grifo D’Oro” award from Bertone in the junior category. This recognition helped propel him into the world of car design, where he started working freelance on several projects, including the front design of the Siata Spring, a Fiat 850-based spider.

In 1976, Fumia graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin. His thesis was completed at Pininfarina’s wind tunnel, and his exceptional skills led to a position at Pininfarina later that same year. At Pininfarina, Fumia began making his mark with various concept designs. Notably, in 1981, he created the Audi Quartz Quattro and Fiat Coupé Brio concepts. The following year, he designed the Alfa Romeo 164, which was introduced to the market in 1987. This iconic car became one of the most recognized models in Alfa Romeo’s lineup and marked a major milestone in Fumia’s career.

In the years that followed, Fumia played a key role in the development of the Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider, which were revealed in the 1990s. He also worked on the Ferrari F90, a limited-edition model based on the Ferrari Testarossa, specifically designed for the Sultan of Brunei.

In 1991, Fumia left Pininfarina to become the head of the Lancia Style Centre. It was here that he designed the Lancia Y, a revolutionary small car that went into production in 1995 and became one of his most successful projects. He also contributed to the interior design of the Maserati 3200 GT.

In 1999, Fumia established his own design firm, Master Design, which later became Fumia Design Associati in 2002 and Fumia Design Studio in 2009. He continues to manage the studio, remaining a key figure in the automotive design world with a focus on innovation and style.
