Carlo Gaino, born in 1957 in Turin, is a distinguished Italian designer known for his contributions to automotive design and product design. After completing his Maturità artistica, Gaino pursued architectural studies at the Politecnico di Torino, while simultaneously attending the School of Applied Art and Design of Turin, focusing on Car Body Architecture. His education laid the foundation for a successful career in design, particularly in the automotive sector.
Gaino’s professional journey began in 1980 when he joined Italdesign, where he worked as a car designer until 1987. During this period, he contributed to the development of various automotive designs, refining his skills in both aesthetics and engineering. Following his time at Italdesign, Gaino worked briefly at I.D.E.A. Institute, further honing his expertise in design.
In 1988, Gaino founded Synthesis Design, marking the beginning of his independent design career. As a freelancer, he worked across various sectors, including automotive and product design, collaborating with numerous international car manufacturers. His design portfolio is notable for iconic creations such as the Lancia ECV II, the Alfa Romeo 155 GTA, the Maserati Barchetta, and the De Tomaso Guarà, which earned him recognition in the design world. His ability to merge technical innovation with creative vision has made him a sought-after designer in the automotive industry.
In addition to his professional work, Gaino has been an educator, sharing his expertise with future designers. He served as a professor of industrial design for transportation at the Politecnico di Torino and, since 2001, has taught at the IUAV University of Venice, specializing in industrial product design. Parallel to his design work, Gaino has maintained a successful artistic career, holding solo exhibitions of paintings and sculptures in Turin and Padua.
