From a young age, Mesonero-Romanos developed a deep passion for automobiles. After completing high school, he moved to Barcelona to study at the Elisava School of Design and Engineering. His first professional experience in the automotive sector came with Carrocerías Ayats, a luxury bus manufacturer in Arbucias, Girona. By 1997, he moved to the Design Centre Europe in Sitges, where he led exterior design projects for SEAT, Volkswagen, and Audi. His work continued at Renault, where he became responsible for several important design projects, including the Renault Laguna Coupé, and eventually became the head of Advanced Design.
Between 2009 and 2011, Mesonero-Romanos worked in South Korea as the design chief for Renault Samsung Motors, overseeing the creation of the SM7 luxury sedan concept. Returning to SEAT in 2011, he played a crucial role in designing the SEAT Ateca, Arona, Tarraco, and the fourth-generation SEAT León. His leadership also helped establish Cupra as a separate performance brand within SEAT.
In June 2021, Mesonero-Romanos became the head of design at Alfa Romeo, where he continues to shape the future of the iconic Italian brand within the Stellantis group. His remarkable career showcases his influence and leadership in automotive design across multiple major global manufacturers.
