The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Cabriolet Ghia..
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet Ghia, chassis number 915.592, holds a poignant history tied to its first owner, Alfonso Cabeza de Vaca, Marquis of Portago. Delivered to Carrozzeria Ghia on September 30, 1947, the chassis underwent meticulous craftsmanship and was completed with its body on June 11, 1948. This exquisite Cabriolet became a cherished possession of the Marquis de Portago, who enjoyed it during his leisure travels. Tragically, the Marquis de Portago met his untimely end during the 1957 Mille Miglia at Guidizzolo. The race was marred by a fatal incident caused by a tire blowout on the Ferrari 335 S he was competing with. Despite this tragic event, the legacy of the Marquis and his association with this Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet Ghia endured. Following the Marquis’s death, his relatives sold the car to a French mechanic, who continued to use and maintain it for the next fifteen years. Another similar specimen with the same body design by Carrozzeria Ghia was built on chassis number 915.616, adding to the rarity and prestige of this particular design. The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Cabriolet Ghia remains not only a testament to automotive design and engineering of its time but also a poignant reminder of the lives and stories intertwined with these classic automobiles. Its elegant lines and historical significance continue to captivate enthusiasts and collectors alike, preserving the memory of its original owner and the craftsmanship of Carrozzeria Ghia.
