Maserati Bora Frua
The Maserati Bora proposal by Pietro Frua made in 1971. It remained a mock-up as Italdesign’s proposal made by Giugiaro was chosen.
Vehicle Overview
Shortly after Citroën took over Maserati in March 1968, the new Maserati general manager Guy Malleret proposed to his chief engineer Giulio Alfieri the production of a 2-seater mid-engined sports car. Alfieri already had such a concept in the drawer, so that the order for the design of the body could be placed with the two Turin design studios of Pietro Frua and Giorgetto Giugaro (Italdesign) which won the competition with this model. At the end of January 1969, Pietro Frua made four designs for a two-seater Maserati coupé with a mid-engine. In March, contrary to his usual way of working, he created a non-roadworthy, painted clay model for a client for the first time. This was a combination of design elements from the four drafts, with the sideline largely corresponding to the first draft.
