Chery QQ
For the second generation of the QQ, Chery commissions the exterior and interior design to the Italian Torino Design, already a partner of the Chinese company for the realization of the Chery Lui and Chery Lei prototypes.
Vehicle Overview
The Chery QQ was designed by Torino Design which was inspired by Nemo, the character in the Pixar movie; specifically, a rounded design was maintained with a mini-minivan style bodywork with large circular headlights and a small grille, the wheels at the ends of the floor and the main feature was the circular glazing that connects to the rear door handle recalling a motif in Q. It could be considered the Daewoo Matiz clone. The interior had a completely new dashboard also characterized by a circular motif with a large storage compartment in the central part. Officially the second generation is presented in May 2013 in China and sales on the Chinese market immediately start. The following year it will begin to be exported under the name Chery New QQ to distinguish it from the first series left in production. The body is 3,546 meters long, 1,550 meters wide and 1,520 meters high. The mechanical architecture remains the same but updated, it always uses the platform of the previous one but revised in the geometry of the suspensions. The front always adopts the classic MacPherson but the structure has been stiffened to make driving more precise, while at the rear the torsion beam has been redesigned to take up less space in the luggage compartment. Front airbags and anti-lock wheel system (ABS) with EBD are standard for all versions. The engine is the three-cylinder 1.0 Acteco 12-valve with electronic injection and variable valve timing delivering 69 horsepower and combined with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed semi-automatic transmission with sequential mode. In Europe the car was imported by DR Automobiles and renamed DR Zero. In the South American market the second generation QQ has been sold since 2014 while from 2016 following the good sales numbers it was assembled in complete knock down with components shipped from China at the CAOA Jacareí plant and equipped with the 1.0 12 valve engine Acteco Flex dual fuel petrol and ethanol delivering 74 or 75 horsepower depending on the power supply. Assembly in Brazil was discontinued in the summer of 2019.
