Stutz Diplomatica

The Stutz Diplomatica: a stylish limo based on the Cadillac Deville.

Vehicle Overview

The Stutz Diplomatica and its elongated version, the Stutz Royale, epitomized luxury and exclusivity during their production from 1981 to 1985. Based on the Cadillac DeVille, the Diplomatica was crafted by coachbuilder Saturn, with only seven units ever produced. Notably, one Diplomatica was specifically sold to the royal family of Saudi Arabia, highlighting its elite clientele and prestigious status. In 1981, the armored version of the Stutz Diplomatica commanded a hefty price tag of $225,000, reflecting its bespoke craftsmanship and high-security features tailored for diplomatic and VIP use. The model was designed to provide unparalleled comfort and security, meeting the demanding requirements of its affluent clientele. The Stutz Royale, an extended wheelbase version measuring 7,500 mm, was introduced the same year as a homage to the legendary Bugatti Royale. Designed by Italian designer Paolo Martin, the Royale further elevated the Stutz brand’s reputation for opulence and sophistication. It featured luxurious amenities including a sunroof that allowed passengers to participate in ceremonial events, enhancing its appeal for heads of state and dignitaries. Priced at $285,000 for the armored variant in 1981, the Royale underscored its exclusivity with only three examples built. Two of these prestigious vehicles were acquired by prominent figures: King Fahd of Saudi Arabia and Omar Bongo, the President of Gabon. Their ownership further solidified the Royale’s status as a symbol of wealth, power, and discerning taste in automotive luxury. The Stutz Diplomatica and Royale remain significant in automotive history, representing a pinnacle of American craftsmanship and Italian design collaboration aimed at the most discerning clientele worldwide.
