Ferrari 250 Europa Coupé Vignale

Chassis

#0313EU

The Ferrari 250 Europa 0313EU Coupé built by Carrozzeria Vignale.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari 250 Europa 0313EU Coupé, crafted by Carrozzeria Vignale and designed by Giovanni Michelotti, is a notable piece of automotive history. Visitors to the 2nd World Motor Sports Show in January 1954 were treated to the sight of this aggressive yet elegant sports coupe. Positioned between a low ‘spider’ and an open-wheel formula racing car, chassis 0313 EU stood out with its sophisticated two-tone color scheme of Tobacco and Bruno Siena over beige leather. This coupe was sold to the US importer Luigi Chinetti and shipped to New York that same month. At the show, it had been repainted red with black to better match the competition cars displayed beside it. The car stayed with Chinetti for some time. By 1958, it was owned by Mike Garber of Framingham, Massachusetts, and in April of that year, it was sold to George H. Parker of Rome, New York, by Gaston Andrey. The car then moved to San Diego, California, in 1960 and underwent another repaint, this time in purple. During its time in California, the original Ferrari V-12 engine was temporarily removed and replaced with a supercharged Chevrolet engine. This modification was not uncommon at the time, as owners sought to increase power inexpensively and reduce the maintenance demands of the Italian V-12 engines. Additionally, the bumpers were removed, along with the rear bright trim, and the nose was repaired after sustaining slight damage. The history of the Ferrari 250 Europa 0313EU Coupé reflects the evolving tastes and needs of its owners over the decades. Despite the various modifications and changes, the car remains a testament to the craftsmanship of Carrozzeria Vignale and the enduring appeal of Ferrari’s design and engineering. Its journey from a sophisticated show car to a modified classic in the hands of enthusiasts highlights the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of automotive history.
