The Alfa Romeo Spider 2006 – 2010 is a stylish and modern interpretation of the classic open-top roadster, produced by Alfa Romeo in collaboration with Pininfarina. Built at the Pininfarina plant in San Giorgio Canavese, this Spider replaced the previous model (1995) and was introduced as the open version of the Alfa Romeo Brera coupé. It was known internally as Progetto 939 and made its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2006. Shortly after, it was named Cabrio of the Year 2006 by a jury of 23 journalists from 12 European countries. The Spider’s overall design draws heavily from the Brera coupé, a creation of Giorgetto Giugiaro, but its rear section received significant modifications by Pininfarina to differentiate it from the closed version. The Spider stands out with its sleek lines, featuring two seats and a fully automatic foldable canvas roof, which could be retracted in just 25 seconds. This emphasis on a distinctive rear design gave the Spider a character of its own, setting it apart from the Brera. Both the Spider 2006 and Brera were assembled at Pininfarina’s plant in Turin, continuing the long-standing collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Pininfarina, which began with the Giulietta Spider and extended through the various iterations of the Duetto Spider. The two models on display at the Geneva launch were painted in Alfa Red and Pearl White, showcasing the Spider’s elegance and performance. The car symbolized the revival of Alfa Romeo’s tradition of producing beautiful and sporty open-top cars.
