#2207SA

The Ferrari 400 Superamerica Superfast IV by Pininfarina.

Vehicle Overview

The Ferrari Superfast IV, chassis 2207SA, represents the pinnacle of Pininfarina’s experimental Superfast series, which explored radical aerodynamics and advanced styling. Originally introduced as the Superfast II at the 1960 Turin Motor Show, the car was a one-off prototype based on the 400 Superamerica platform, showcasing cutting-edge design elements that would influence future Ferrari models. It featured a 2420mm wheelbase and was powered by a Tipo 163 V12 engine, combining high performance with luxury grand touring capabilities. Following its debut, 2207SA underwent several transformations. In 1961, it was updated to become the Superfast III, receiving various design modifications, including a new nose and revised bodywork. It was displayed at multiple international auto shows, including the Geneva Motor Show in 1962. Later that year, the car was reimagined once more as the Superfast IV, marking its final evolution. Throughout its transformations, the car was repainted multiple times, shifting from its original white-over-black to silver-grey, then to light metallic green with a red roof, before settling into its final Italver evening blue and natural leather interior. Notably, the car was initially owned by Battista Farina, founder of Pininfarina, who used it as a personal vehicle. In August 1962, it was sold to Italian industrialist Nicolo Oronzo de Nora of Milan. Over time, the car made its way to the United States, where it changed hands multiple times. By the 1980s, it was offered for sale by Bobileff Motor Cars and later appeared at various high-profile auctions, including those in Monaco and Geneva. In 2005, Lee Herrington acquired the car through Ferrari historian Marcel Massini. Herrington oversaw a meticulous restoration, bringing the car back to its Superfast III specifications at Wayne Obry’s Motion Products. Following its restoration, the car was exhibited at prestigious events such as the Cavallino Classic, Amelia Island Concours, and Pebble Beach. The Ferrari Superfast IV remains a testament to Ferrari and Pininfarina’s pursuit of innovation, blending striking aesthetics with exceptional engineering. As one of the most exclusive and experimental Ferraris of its time, it continues to captivate enthusiasts and collectors worldwide.
