This Ferrari 330 GT Michelotti Coupe originated as a rolling chassis crafted by Ferrari, later entrusted to the renowned coachbuilder Michelotti for its final touches. The outcome was nothing short of remarkable and entirely unique. While the art of coachbuilding was waning among many automotive brands, discerning customers still cherished the craftsmanship of customization. Luigi Chinetti, the esteemed North American Ferrari importer and owner of the NART racing team, played a pivotal role in reviving this traditional practice. Chinetti’s illustrious career included a victory at the 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans, showcasing his refined taste and driving expertise. He successfully persuaded Enzo Ferrari to depart from standard production methods, aiming to cater to North American preferences. These bespoke creations became known as Chinetti Specials. This particular Ferrari 330 GT Michelotti bears chassis number 9083 and boasts a striking body crafted by Giovanni Michelotti. It stands as a unique creation, originally based on a 2+2 chassis and transformed into a two-seater coupe. The collaboration between Ferrari, Chinetti, and Michelotti resulted in a truly exceptional vehicle. In addition to the coupe, at Chinetti’s behest, Michelotti also crafted a spider version of the same car, this time configured as a 2+2. Despite its bespoke design, the car retains the same engine and mechanical components as the standard 330 GT. Since its creation, the car has changed hands three times. In 1987, Rob Drew commissioned a meticulous two-year restoration, during which the original metallic blue color was replaced with the current burgundy hue. The car made a noteworthy appearance at the 1989 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it clinched second place, further affirming its status as a remarkable automotive work of art.
