Vehicle Overview
The Daewoo Leganza is part of the “x100” series projects developed independently in the early nineties intended to replace all the previous cars of the Korean house based on technologies and chassis of General Motors-Opel origin. In the case of the Leganza, the car takes up the legacy of both the Daewoo Espero and the Daewoo Prince family of flagships. At the time, Ulrich Bez, known for his experience at Porsche and BMW, was appointed head of the engineering department of Daewoo. The code “x100” varied according to the models and the Leganza was assigned the design number V100. The development of the “x100” cars also involved numerous suppliers both for the final design of the cars and for the engineering part. The development of the V100 project started in late 1993 and lasted 30 months; the house invested about $ 500 million. The design was entrusted to Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign and after only three months, in the spring of 1994, the final style was already approved by the top management of the Korean house. Giugiaro was inspired by his own Jaguar Kensington concept car from 1990 and by some style proposals of the Lexus GS dating back to 1991 adapted to a front-wheel drive car body and introducing some characteristic details of the Daewoo family feeling such as the oval grille with various chromed strips and the headlights from round shape.
