Alfa Romeo Nuvola
The Alfa Romeo Nuvola concept car: a tribute to Nuvolari.
Vehicle Overview
The Alfa Romeo Nuvola is a sleek 2-seater berlinetta featuring a unitary autoportant chassis that allows for diverse volumetric solutions. This innovative approach enables the creation of vehicles with entirely different body styles while utilizing the same foundational chassis, thereby reducing production costs. This concept surprised the public, showcasing the potential to transform a two-seater sports coupé into a versatile family car. Developed in collaboration with the I.DE.A Institute, the Nuvola was designed under the supervision of the Alfa Romeo Style Center, led by Walter de Silva at the time. It debuted in a distinctive blue hue chosen by Paolo Cantarella, then CEO of the Fiat Group. The car was named “Nuvola” as a tribute to the legendary driver Tazio Nuvolari, symbolizing speed, agility, and the dynamic nature of clouds, echoing the flexibility of its chassis design. Stylistically, the Nuvola draws inspiration from iconic historic Alfa Romeos such as the 8C 2900, the 6C 2500 “Villa d’Este”, the Giulietta Sprint Speciale, and the 1900 Sprint, reinterpreted through a modern lens. Its front optical group integrates four round headlights within water droplet-shaped enclosures, while the aerodynamic rear design accentuates the car’s speed and agility. Measuring 4,286 mm in length, 1,859 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, the Nuvola is powered by a 2.5-liter V6 “Busso” engine equipped with twin turbochargers. Generating 300 hp at 6,000 rpm and 386 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, it features all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual gearbox, achieving 0-100 km/h in just over 5 seconds, with a top speed of 280 km/h. oday, the Alfa Romeo Nuvola is proudly displayed at the Museo Alfa Romeo, where it stands as a testament to Italian automotive craftsmanship and engineering prowess.
