The 1990 Ford Zig concept car by Ghia.
The Ford Zig is a concept car developed by Ghia, forming a distinctive pair alongside its counterpart, the Ghia Ford Zag, both debuting in 1990. Finished in mica black, the Zig presented a sleek, aerodynamic two-seat barchetta, offering a stark contrast to the brilliant white Zag, a versatile sports concept. Both vehicles were based on the Ford Fiesta architecture and envisioned as part of a potential lineup including sports cars, hatchbacks, sedans, pickups, and delivery vans, all utilizing shared lower door and body panels. The Zig’s design was characterized by its open-top configuration and a truncated windscreen inspired by classic sports racing cars. Inside, the cabin featured bright blue seats with neon green inserts, creating a striking visual complement to the lustrous black exterior. The instrument panel followed a futuristic design language, continuing the bold color scheme seen throughout the interior. Equipped with 16-inch custom-cut tires and bold wheels, the Zig embodied a blend of cutting-edge design and practical innovation. It aimed to showcase a dynamic vision for future automotive possibilities, exploring both aesthetic appeal and functional versatility within the compact car segment. Together with the Ghia Zag, the Ford Zig exemplified Ghia’s expertise in concept car design, pushing boundaries with its distinctive styling cues and forward-thinking approach to automotive innovation. While remaining a concept, the Zig left a lasting impression as a symbol of creativity and potential within the automotive industry during its era.
