Lancia Aurelia B56S Coupé Ghia

The Lancia Aurelia B56 Coupé by Ghia.

Vehicle Overview

The Lancia Aurelia B56S Coupé, bodied by Carrozzeria Ghia, represents a rare and exclusive example of mid-20th-century Italian automotive craftsmanship. In 1954, Lancia introduced the “second series” of the Aurelia sedan, featuring a 2.3-liter engine. While the production of chassis intended for external coachbuilders officially ended with the B52 and B53 models, Lancia continued to manufacture a very limited number of special chassis in the subsequent two years. According to Lancia’s production records, 14 additional chassis equipped with the 2266 cm³ engine were built between 1955 and 1956. These chassis were designated as B55 and B56, with the distinctions primarily based on the axle ratio. The B55S and B56S variants referred to the left-hand drive versions of these chassis. Despite the official cessation of chassis production for coachbuilders, these limited-run chassis were used either for Lancia’s internal purposes or to create some of the most unique and special-bodied vehicles by renowned coachbuilders. Among these unique creations were several significant Pininfarina designs, including a B55 chassis with a shortened wheelbase that resulted in the final coupé of the PF200 series, and a B56 chassis that was used for a limousine body. Additionally, a few B56 chassis served as the foundation for the “Florida” series bodies by Pininfarina. Notably, two of the B56 series chassis were sold to Carrozzeria Ghia. Ghia, known for its elegant and innovative designs, crafted two exquisite coupés on these chassis. The Lancia Aurelia B56S Coupé by Ghia showcases the seamless blend of Lancia’s engineering prowess and Ghia’s distinctive design language. The Ghia-bodied Aurelia Coupés are characterized by their elegant proportions, refined details, and the hallmark craftsmanship that Ghia was famous for during this era. These vehicles are highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts today, not only for their rarity but also for their historical significance and the extraordinary collaboration between Lancia and some of Italy’s most revered coachbuilders. The Lancia Aurelia B56S Coupé by Ghia stands as a testament to the golden age of custom coachbuilding, where automotive artistry and engineering excellence came together to create truly remarkable automobiles.

Not clear yet, maybe a B55 chassis?
