Vehicle Overview
The Monteverdi Berlinetta was a two-seat sports car of the Swiss car manufacturer Monteverdi, which was offered from 1972 to 1976 and produced in small quantities. With comparable drive technology and stylistic elements of the Berlinetta, 1975 also appeared a convertible, which was named Palm Beach. The Monteverdi Berlinetta GT was technically a member of the High Speed 375 series, which produced Monteverdi since 1967 in various series. It was a further development of the High Speed 375 S, whose chassis and body structure essentially took over. The Berlinetta was the third closed model on Monteverdi’s short wheelbase chassis: from 1967 to 1968, Monteverdi had offered the first version of the 375 S with a bodywork from Pietro Frua; the second version, a car with the same name made between 1969 and 1971 made by Fissore. The drive was a 7.0-liter eight-cylinder engine from Chrysler (Hemi type), which delivered 390 hp. It was mounted further on the front of the vehicle, which improved the noise insulation and the heat balance. These modifications were adapted also on future 375 L and the 375/4, which had suffered in certain situations so far from overheating. Available from 1974 was also the 7.2-liter eight-cylinder engine (Magnum type) which made 340 hp, already known from the earlier models.
