Castagna Aznom

The Castagna Aznom is a  concept designed and built by milanese coachbuilder Castagna in 2007. In 1913, when “aerodynamics” was not yet a common talking point, Castagna was the first to come up with the new “minivan” concept and the “teardrop bodyshape that offers little air resistance”.

Vehicle Overview

The Castagna Aznom stands as a testament to the fervor of track enthusiasts, those who relish in the thrill of pushing their limits and exploring the capabilities of their machines. Crafted around the principles of lightness, aerodynamics, and mechanics, this vehicle represents a fusion of artistry and engineering prowess. Spearheaded by Gioacchino Acampora, the chief designer at Carrozzeria Castagna Milano, the Aznom finds its roots in the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 platform, undergoing a transformative evolution to emerge as a pinnacle of automotive excellence. Originally introduced as the Aria One-Off based on the Ferrari 575 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005, the Aznom reappeared in a substantially reimagined form at the prestigious Top Marques event in Monaco. Its essence remains rooted in the pursuit of automotive perfection, with a relentless focus on enhancing performance and driving dynamics. Under the hood lies a formidable 7-liter supercharged V8 engine, boasting an impressive output of approximately 710 horsepower and 980Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed transmission sourced from the Corvette Z06 lineage, the Aznom delivers blistering acceleration, propelling from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds, with a 0-200 km/h sprint clocking in at 7.8 seconds. True to its track-oriented ethos, the Aznom underwent rigorous testing at the renowned Paul Ricard circuit, where a bespoke setup tailored specifically for the demanding track conditions was fine-tuned to perfection. Collaborating with esteemed partners, the Aznom incorporates cutting-edge digital technology from Samsung, race-inspired Sparco seats, and performance-oriented 20-inch wheels sourced from AEZ, wrapped in high-performance Pirelli PZero tires (285/35 front, 335/30 rear). Complementing its relentless power delivery is a meticulously engineered braking system from Brembo, ensuring precise deceleration and control, while adjustable shock absorbers and titanium torsion bars form the backbone of its agile suspension setup. The exterior exudes a sense of purpose and aggression, crafted from lightweight carbon fiber to achieve a remarkable curb weight of just 1,320 kilograms. This emphasis on weight reduction translates into an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 1.6 kg/hp, empowering the Aznom with unrivaled agility and responsiveness on the track. Every aspect of its design and engineering is a testament to the unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive performance, making the Castagna Aznom a quintessential expression of automotive excellence for track enthusiasts worldwide.

The Castagna Aznom is dedicated to all those people who love track-days, testing their own limits and getting to know their vehicle by pushing the envelope. Three basic concepts form the basis of the project: lightness, aerodynamics, and mechanics. Designed by Gioacchino Acampora, chef designer at Carrozzeria Castagna Milano, it is based on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. This concept, the styling key of which was unveiled at Geneva in 2005 as the Aria One-Off based on the Ferrari 575, was unveiled in an unfinished but almost completely revised key at the Top Marques in Monaco. the concept mounts a 7-liter supercharged V8, rated at about 710 hp and 980Nm of torque. The transmission is 6-speed, of U.S. origin (derived from the Corvette Z06). The tested top speed is 370 km/h, while acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds (0-200 in 7.8) is reported. The Castagna Aznom was tested on the Paul Ricard circuit with a set-up designed specifically for that circuit.[1] Many partners participated in the project: the digital technology is provided by Samsung and the seats are Sparco, the 20-inch wheels are provided by AEZ and the tires are Pirelli PZero with sizes 285/35 and 335/30. The braking system is manufactured by Brembo while the suspension department consists of adjustable shock absorbers and titanium torsion bars. The bodywork is made of carbon fiber, allowing a weight of 1,320kg thus achieving a power-to-weight ratio of 1.6 kg/hp.
