The Ferrari 410 Superamerica Boano chassis 0477SA is one of the most significant and rare examples of Ferrari’s iconic grand touring cars from the 1950s. This particular model is part of the first series of the 410 Superamerica, which was introduced in 1955 as the successor to the 375 America. The 410 Superamerica was powered by a 4.9-liter V12 engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi, which produced approximately 340 horsepower and allowed for impressive performance, combining power with Ferrari’s renowned craftsmanship. Chassis 0477SA, built in 1955, is a standout example of the 410 Superamerica, equipped with a coupe body designed by Boano, one of Ferrari’s trusted coachbuilders at the time. This car is particularly notable because it is one of the few 410 Superamerica models that were produced with the 2800 mm wheelbase, a feature that distinguished the car from later versions that were produced with a shorter 2600 mm wheelbase. The car was initially delivered to a U.S. client, Upton, in 1955, marking the first chapter in its history. The 410 Superamerica was part of Ferrari’s strategy to make the brand even more attractive to the American market, which was quickly becoming a key audience for high-performance European sports cars. In 1987, the car was acquired by Robert M. Lee of Sparks, Nevada, who would oversee its preservation and care for many years. Under his ownership, the car was displayed at various prestigious events, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2017, where it was shown in the M4 class, and in January 2018, it was featured at the Petersen Museum, further cementing its status as an important part of Ferrari’s history.
