At the start of his career, Bertone steadfastly dedicated himself to building bodies for Lancia chassis. The best examples of that work are to be found in the bodies for the Trikappas, in particular a landaulet limousine and a coupé De Ville.
The Lancia Trikappa Bertone with a sophisticated 14° V8 engine of 4592 cc and overhead valves able to put out 98 hp at 2500 rpm, in its day it was considered a car of innovative mechanics; it had a 12V electrical System and, as from the car’s second series, drum brakes on all four wheels. The Trikappa’s wheelbase measured 3384 mm and its tracks 1365/1370 mm; the car, the chassis of which was to host a number of highly prestigious bodies, could reach a top speed of 130 km/h and was produced from 1922 to 1925.
