The Fiat OSCA 1500 Berlinetta Aerodinamica by Bertone is a rare and stunning example of Italian automotive design, showcasing the extraordinary talents of Franco Scaglione and the Bertone design house. The standard Fiat OSCA 1500 was a collaboration between Fiat and OSCA, featuring a twin-cam engine that gave the car impressive performance for its time. While the original Pininfarina body design was elegant, it didn’t fully hint at the power underneath. However, the Berlinetta Aerodinamica version by Bertone, with Franco Scaglione at the helm, took the car’s styling to a whole new level, transforming it into a masterpiece of mid-century design. Scaglione, known for his groundbreaking work on the Alfa Romeo B.A.T. (Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica) series, brought similar elements to this car. The Berlinetta Aerodinamica features sleek, flowing curves mixed with sharp creases and dramatic fins, encapsulating the transatlantic design ethos of the late 1950s. Bertone produced only two examples of the Fiat OSCA 1500 Berlinetta Aerodinamica, each on different chassis. The first was built on a Fiat 1200 platform, while the second, more powerful version, used the Fiat OSCA 1500 chassis, offering performance to match its advanced design. Key distinguishing features include a larger hood scoop to accommodate the twin-cam engine, as well as other subtle details that set it apart from the earlier version. The car’s history includes appearances at the 1959 Torino and Geneva motor shows, and it was possibly showcased at the Buenos Aires Motor Show. After years out of the public eye, this particular example (chassis 118S.000628) was rediscovered in a somewhat neglected state. It underwent a meticulous, multi-year restoration, with careful attention to maintaining originality. The result is a car restored to its former glory, complete with its original silver finish and blue leather interior. The Fiat OSCA 1500 Berlinetta Aerodinamica is a rare and beautifully restored piece of automotive history, representing the best of Italian design and engineering. Its unique styling and performance make it a sought-after entry for prestigious concours and driving events worldwide.
