The Maserati A6 G 2000 Allemano designed by Michelotti.

Vehicle Overview

The Maserati A6 G 2000 Gran Turismo, stands as one of the most refined and elegant grand tourers of the 1950s. Born from Maserati’s ambition to establish a regular production line of high-performance touring cars, the A6G/54 was equipped with the 2.0-liter twin-cam inline-six derived from the A6GCS/53, a racing engine renowned for its reliability and success in competition during the 1953 and 1954 seasons. This powerplant, producing 150 horsepower, allowed the A6G/54 to deliver both performance and refinement, making it an ideal choice for discerning clients seeking a balance between speed, comfort, and exclusivity. Giovanni Michelotti was responsible for designing the Allemano-bodied variant, known internally as “Tipo C.” Initially, his sketches for the first prototype incorporated styling cues from the Fiat 1100 TV, particularly in the front-end design. However, after its debut at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, refinements were made to define the final production version. The elliptical grille of the prototype evolved into a more distinctive Maserati signature, a feature that would influence the brand’s identity for years to come. The roofline was subtly revised to improve cabin space, transforming the car into a more formal and elegant three-box coupé. Positioned between the Frua-bodied luxury variants and the lightweight Zagato competition-focused models, the A6G/54 Allemano catered to a specific clientele: professionals who sought a prestigious, swift, yet understated grand tourer for business and leisure travel. This character was captured perfectly by journalist Giovanni Lurani in his report from the 1956 Geneva Motor Show, where he described the Allemano coupé as a “magnificently bodied luxury Gran Turismo, executed in Allemano’s now-classic sober style.” In total, 21 examples of the A6G/54 Allemano were built between 1955 and 1957. The design’s restrained yet sophisticated personality contributed to its longevity, with only minor variations in trim and detailing across the production run. Thanks to its dignified styling, mechanical excellence, and rarity, the A6G/54 Allemano remains one of the most distinguished and collectible Maseratis ever produced, a testament to the golden era of Italian grand touring automobiles.
