#41-3062

The Lancia Astura Cabriolet 41-3062 one-off.

Vehicle Overview

The Lancia Astura Cabriolet Boneschi, chassis no. 41-3062, is a rare and remarkable vehicle commissioned by Italo Lattuada, a wealthy businessman from Milan. Delivered in 1939 by the Minetti agency, one of the largest Lancia dealerships in northern Italy, this car stands out among the 82 Astura models built by Lancia and is one of just 10 convertibles bodied by Carrozzeria Boneschi, making it an extraordinary piece of automotive history. Despite the small number of similar cars produced, chassis 41-3062 is considered a one-off due to its unique features and customizations, known as 4 Posti con Coda. One of the most striking innovations of this cabriolet was its electrically operated soft top, a groundbreaking feature for 1938, highlighting the cutting-edge design typical of Lancia during this era. Another unusual aspect of this Astura is its intended use. Unlike many luxury cars of the time, which were often used for official or ceremonial purposes, Lattuada primarily used the car privately. Lattuada, who registered the car in Milan on May 3, 1939, made bespoke modifications to the vehicle to suit his personal needs. Being significantly shorter than his wife, he had the seats adjusted so that they were both at the same height, ensuring comfort and functionality for both occupants. Despite the upheavals of World War II, Lattuada retained ownership of the vehicle until April 1950, when he transferred it to his own company, “Società Italiana Noleggio Tassametri.” This firm specialized in managing the rental of taximeters, providing Lattuada with a profitable business venture. Following his death, Lattuada’s widow sold the car, which had been in the family for decades, to collector Edoardo Tenconi at the end of 1974. Tenconi’s acquisition preserved this exceptional vehicle, ensuring its legacy. The car’s rarity, innovative design, and fascinating history make it a treasured part of automotive heritage.
