    Ford Probe I

Monterey, CA – The automotive world is in mourning following the tragic loss of the 1979 Ford Ghia Probe I Prototype, which was involved in a highway accident late Sunday. The vehicle, part of the prestigious Scott Grundfor Company collection, was en route home after its recent appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance when the accident occurred.

The Scott Grundfor Company, known for its dedication to preserving automotive history, had cherished the Probe I for over 20 years. This one-of-a-kind prototype, crafted by Ford in collaboration with the renowned design firm Carrozzeria Ghia, was a groundbreaking example of aerodynamic innovation from the late 1970s. The car’s sleek, aerodynamic design and its role in advancing automotive efficiency made it a significant piece of automotive heritage.

Fortunately, Jackson, the team member driving the trailer transporting the Probe I, was unharmed. His swift and courageous actions played a crucial role in containing the accident and preventing further damage or harm to others on the highway. The first responders, including firemen and police officers, also played a vital role in managing the situation and minimizing the impact of the incident.

Scott Grundfor and Drew, who have been the proud stewards of the Probe I, expressed their profound sadness at the loss. They are deeply grateful for the time they had with the vehicle and extend their heartfelt thanks to all who supported them during this challenging time.

The remains of the Probe I will be transported back to Arroyo Grande, where it will join other Ghia/Ford prototypes in their collection. Despite this significant loss, the legacy of the Ford Probe I will continue to inspire and remind us of the innovative spirit that shaped automotive design.

At Carrozzieri Italiani, we extend our deepest sympathy to Scott Grundfor Company for the loss of this remarkable piece of automotive history. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
