The Fiat 1900 Boano Junior by Ghia: American Style.
The Fiat 1900 Boano Junior is a rare and distinctive coupé designed by Gianpaolo Boano, the son of Felice Boano, the renowned chief designer at Carrozzeria Ghia. The name “Boano Junior” reflects this family connection, with “Junior” signifying the younger Boano’s involvement in the design process. Only two of these exclusive coupés were produced by Carrozzeria Ghia in Turin, with one built on the Fiat 1900 chassis and the other on the Fiat 1400 chassis. Additionally, a similar body design was later adapted for the Lancia Aurelia B52 chassis, demonstrating its versatile appeal. The Fiat 1900 Boano Junior’s design is a fascinating blend of Italian craftsmanship and American influence. The styling is heavily inspired by the American automotive trend of the time, incorporating numerous chrome elements on the front grille, which give the car a bold and distinctive appearance. The body design is notably wide compared to the chassis, a deliberate choice to accommodate steering for the front tires. This design decision led to a substantial gap between the body’s flanks and the wheels when viewed from the front, with the wheel arches partially covered by the expansive bodywork. The Boano Junior’s aesthetics are further characterized by its two-tone color scheme, which enhances its visual impact and highlights its elegant lines. The rear of the car features small fins that integrate the tail lights, a design element that contributes to the overall futuristic look of the vehicle. These fins not only add to the car’s style but also echo the trends of the era, blending form with function. Overall, the Fiat 1900 Boano Junior is a striking example of mid-20th-century automotive design, showcasing both innovative engineering and artistic flair. Its limited production and unique design elements make it a rare and coveted collector’s item, reflecting the bold experimentation that characterized this period in automotive history.
